This describes what Set Course actually does with your data, in plain language. Set Course is an independent personal project, not a registered company — if you have questions, use the feedback form on the Help page.
What is collected
- Account: your email (or nothing at all, for a guest/anonymous account) and password, handled by Supabase Auth — Set Course never sees your raw password.
- Trip details you provide: destination, dates, accommodation, flight/rail details, booking reference, passenger names — via a pasted confirmation email, manual entry, or a quick destination search.
- Location: your device's location if you use the Tour Guide or Live Translator features, and an optional home address on your Profile (used only to show distance from home).
- A profile photo, if you choose to upload one.
- Group data if you use it: party member names, kitty contributions/expenses, shared itinerary items — visible to anyone you invite to that trip.
- Feedback you submit, and the email you provide with it (or your account email, if you are signed in).
- On the Android app only: microphone audio (for Live Translator's speech recognition, processed on-device or by Google's speech service, not stored by Set Course) and step-counter sensor data (only if you opt in, kept on your device).
Third parties this data goes to or comes from
- Anthropic (Claude) — to parse a pasted booking email into structured trip details, and for live translation.
- Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap/Nominatim/Overpass — weather, geocoding, and points of interest.
- NASA FIRMS — wildfire detections. WorldTides — tide predictions. Frankfurter (European Central Bank rates) — currency conversion. AviationStack — flight status. GOV.UK — official FCDO travel advisories. data.police.uk — UK crime data.
- Supabase — hosts the database, authentication, and file storage. Vercel — hosts the app itself.
None of these are sent your account email or password — trip-related lookups (like "weather near this location") only send the minimum needed, like coordinates.
Caching, offline, and your device
To work with patchy or no connectivity, core trip data is cached both on Set Course's server (shared across users, to reduce load on third-party APIs) and on your own device (in your browser's local storage, or natively on the Android app) so it stays available offline. Device-side caches never leave your device.
Your controls
You can delete your account and everything attached to it at any time — Profile → Danger zone → "Close my account". This is permanent. A guest/anonymous account only exists in your browser and is never linked to a real identity unless you choose to save it.
